Artist Bio

Shannon Rios is a dynamic mixed media oil painter whose work celebrates vibrant femininity and the complexity of human experience. Known for her captivating use of neon and fluorescent hues, Shannon spins enchanting narratives through her portraits of the purely female experience.

“I like so many grew up in a dysfunctional, chaotic home. Where I witnessed a lot of mental, emotional and physical abuse, so I was always unsure of everything. So when things got bad I would go to my room sit in my closet and play with my barbies or color in my coloring book. I would get lost for hours playing in a world where I could do anything and go any where, be anyone else. And now I find myself painting my grownup versions of those barbies in  magical, enchanting and beautiful places. I've come full circle, so where some may see it as vapid, shallow or even juvenile; it's so much more for me."

Her artistic journey, shaped by a nomadic upbringing and a commitment to endless learning serves as a meditative outlet for managing her ADHD.

Born in Kansas City, and after decades of living in Southern California, she is now embracing a new and simplified way of life in Idaho with her husband and two dogs. They will be breaking ground on her new home studio in April 2025 where she can concentrate on bringing forth her unique artistic voice. A wife, mother, and devoted friend Shannon believes in the transformative power of art, often creating multiple pieces simultaneously to inspire both herself and her audience with a touch of magic.
